Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar was one of the luminaries of the national resurgence and spiritual renaissance that swept the country in the early part of the 20th century. Shri Poddar was born on 17th September, 1892 at Shillong in a Vaishnava family. He had very little formal schooling, but due to his dedication and self effort he attained mastery over half a dozen languages. Like many of his contemporaries, he began his early life as a revolutionary, determined to overthrow the British and free his motherland Because of his close association with young revolutionaries of Bengal, he was imprisoned and put under house arrest for 21 months, which proved to be turning point in his life. He undertook to edit the spiritual Hindi magazine ‘Kalayan’ in 1927. Starting with a circulation of 1600 copies in 1927, today it has a circulation of more than 300,000 copies. Under the advice of Mahatmaji, ‘Kalyan’ magazine had no columns for book reviews, criticism and commercial advertisements. On account of Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar’s unique spiritual zeal, inspiring leadership and organising capacity, the Hindi magazine ‘Kalyan’ became a force for the propagation and dissemination of Hindu Scriptures and Sanatana Dharma.

Shri. Hanuman Prasad Poddar also published and edited KALYANA – KALPATARU’ IN ENGLISH FROM 1934 and this Journal still continues to be in publication and large scale circulation. Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar dedicated his whole life from 1927 to the sacred and lofty cause of propagation of Hindu Scriptures such as the Baghvad Gita, Mahabharata, Ramayana, the Vedas, the Upanishads and the Puranas through the large scale publication of books in Hindi and other major Indian languages like Marathi, Gujrati, Bengali, Oriya, Telegu, Kannada, Tamil to the common people at affordable prices. The Ramayan, the Geeta and the Upnishads were published by him in the original Sanskrit text with a rendering of the Hindi translation or in any other major Indian language thus making them all available to the common man at affordable prices. Millions of copies of these inspirational spiritual books and fountainheads of ancient knowledge and wisdom were thus distributed from Himalayas to Kanyakumari and from Ran of Kutch to the Bay of Bengal.

The Hindi Journal  Kalyan, the English Journal Kalyan Kalpataru and all the other sacred books like the Bhagavat Geeta, the Mahabharata, the Ramayana in Hindi and allthe major Indian Languages were published by the GITA PRESS IN GORAKHPUR.

SETH JAYADAYAL GOYANDKA (1880-1965)
FOUNDER OF GITA PRESS, GORAKHPUR

The GITA PRESS in GORAKHPUR city in Uttar Pradesh State was founded by SETH JAYADAYAL GOYANDKA (1885-1965) on April 29, 1923 for promoting the principles of Sanatana Dharma. It was started as a unit of Gobind Bhawan Karyalaya registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (presently governed by the West Bengal Societies Act, 1960). Five months later it acquired its first printing machine for Rs 600. The Gita Press is one of the world's largest publishers of Hindu religious texts. Since its establishment, the Gita Press has published 63.4 million (6.34 crore) copies of the Gita (in different editions) and 64.9 million (6.49 crore) copies of the Ramcharitamanas, at subsidized prices throughout India and the world.

Shri. Hanuman Prasad Poddar and SETH JAYADAYAL GOYANDKA were great personal friends. Shri. Hanuman Prasad Poddar became editor of the Hindi Journal ‘Kalyan’ in 1927 and remained as its editor till his death in 1971. The close association between these two spiritual giants from 1927 till SETH JAYADAYAL GOYANDKA’s death in 1965 really made great history in the field of large-scale publication of sacred books on Hindu religion and Sanatana Dharma.

In the Gita Press in Gorakhpur, each day starts with a morning prayer. A person roams around throughout the day to remind the name of God to each worker several times. Over the years, the Gita Press, as a great National Institution has made available more than 450 million copies of the Gita, Ramayan, Bhagvat, Durga Saptashati, Puranas, Upanishads, Bhakta-Gathas, and other character-building books in Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, Bangla, Oriya, Telugu, Kannada, and other Indian regional languages.

I am presenting below the front cover of the Sacred Sundara Kandh published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur.

Now let me come back to describe the multi-dimensional greatness of Shri NITYALILALINA BHAIJI HANUMAN PRASAD JI PODDAR as a Saint, Sage, Seer and Spiritual Thinker. He was in the true, long and unbroken tradition of the great Saints and Sages of Ancient India. He was a Bhakti Maargi who was a great Devotee of Lord Krishna. He wrote thousands of poems (pad) in Hindi under the title Pad Ratnakar published by the Geeta Press in Gorakhpur.

NITYALILALINA BHAIJI HANUMAN PRASAD JI PODDAR wrote Shodash Geet, on the love of Lord Krishna and Radha. He was associated with a Saint, called RADHA BABA who lived with him.

Hanuman Prasad Poddar Ji and Radha Baba Ji

The Great Saint Shri Radha Baba of Gorakhpur never came into prominence during his lifetime. He earnestly believed that a Sanyasi should never publicise himself. Only those devotees who were closely associated with Saint Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddarji, who was popularly known as ‘Bhaiji’ came into close contact with Shri Radha Baba because he lived with Bhaiji in Gita Garden in Gorakhpur. Shri Radha Baba was a follower of Vedanta and a firm believer in intellectual Gyana Marga. But after his close association with Shri Bhaiji, Shri Radha Baba also became a Bhakti Margi and a staunch devotee of Lord Krishna. Shri.Radha Baba strictly followed the path of Braj Sadhana and worshipped Lord Krishna in the concept and tradition of Radha Bhava.

Though Hanuman Prasad Poddar Ji was never a self-proclaimed preceptor, yet millions flocked to meet him for spiritual counsel and guidance. With love, care and affectionate homilies as also with scholarly articles and books he brought about a sea-change in the minds of the millions who heard him and read him. In the sphere of social service, he was always in the forefront whether it was a flood, a drought a fire or an epidemic. He showed superhuman capacity for such relief operations by heading squads to take care of the affected and the afflicted.

Hanuman Prasad Poddar Ji set up a number of schools for the blind, the deaf, the dumb, the needy, the sick, the destitute and the lepers. In recognition of his services to the country, the Government of India has published his biography both in Hindi and English under the 'Builders of Modern India' series. Regarded as a rare saint among saints, he spent the latter half of his life totally immersed in spiritual pursuits along with his role as a leading social reformer, in addition to his role as a householder in the true tradition of King Janaka of Mithila.  Shri Poddar shed his mortal coil on March 22nd, 1971 and he will be remembered unto eternity for his selfless service to humanity.

In an article in Kalyan Kalpataru Hanuman Prasad Poddar Ji laid down 51 Rules in accordance with Sanatana Dharma for leading a selfless life marked by virtue and devotion. In this article he wrote as follows: “

1. Serve all, expect nothing

2. When a person needs anything which you possess, and you gladly give it to him without the desire of receiving any service from him in return, you do an act of service. The thing, however, must be such that its receipt does him good, and no injury.

 3. As far as possible, do not allow your service to be known; do not try to reveal it. If it gets revealed, feel yourself ashamed.

4. Do not feel proud by doing an act of service.  Do not seek anything from one whom you serve. Do not desire that he should feel obliged to you. Do not upset by his shortcomings. Do not feel irritated with  him, Do not censure him.

5. Do not advertise your service, and thus make the recipient of service uneasy about it. This will make him hesitate to accept your service in future. He will repent for having accepted your service, and thus the value of the service will be lost.

6. When an opportunity of service presents itself before you, do not wait for special time and special resources. Take up the service with whatever resources you may possess at the time.

7. Generally speaking, all creatures can claim our services, but service to elders, to aged men, to widows, to house holders suffering from poverty, to the humble and distressed, to persons suffering from disease, to creatures without any protectors, are matters of supreme dharma (duty). It should be considered a privilege when one gets an opportunity to serve such people.

8. Do not serve with a view to gain honour, position and worship.

9. Do not serve with the idea of making the person you serve your follower and disciple.

10. Renunciation is necessary for service, and for renunciation control of the senses. He whose senses are not under control can do no service.

11. Freeing the mind of all desire for wealth, honour and fame, to propagate pure spiritual ideas, rightness of conduct and universal love is a great service to people.

Surveying the saga of unsurpassed service and sacrifice of a sage like Hanuman Prasad Poddar Ji, who had an unshakable faith in the eternal relevance of Sanatana Dharma, thefollowing great spiritual poem titled
UNSHAKEBLE FAITH By Swami Ramdas comes to my mind:

Unshakable faith in God and His will:
Nothing short of this.
Take thorough refuge in Him.
Give up all fears,
all anxieties, all doubts,
all thoughts of weakness.
You have put yourself under the guidance and control
of an all-powerful being.
Let Him do what He pleases with you.
Give up I and mine. Make no plans.
Let nothing of the past or the future disturb you.
God is the sole doer and you are His child. His servant.
Your I and mine has no existence. It is all He, He alone.
Submit, resign, surrender yourself to Him.
Be always cheerful, be peaceful and blissful. In this state
You will always remain. This is your goal.
God is always in you and you are always in Him.
He and you are one. This is the truth.

ENGLISH EDUCATION TO DESTROY TIMELESS BHARAT’S NATIONAL HINDU IDENTITY-IX
V.SUNDARAM I.A.S.

Without courage there can be no truth and without truth there is no other virtue” – Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832)

I am now writing the last part of my review of this revolutionary, incendiary and explosive book. Not only the persecuted Hindus of India but all the genuine scholars interested in the disinterested pursuit of Truth at any cost, in spite of Sonia UPA II Government let loose anti-Hindu terror, are duty-bound to offer their salutations to these two courageous scholars.

Front cover of the book

I have already referred to some of the baseless objections concocted by the so-called ‘Eminent Historians’ belonging to the Maulana Jawaharlal Nehru University anti-Hindu squad (and working whole-time for the creation of Marxist Thugee Raj in India) against the NCERT textbooks which were brought out in 2002. For these mean and treasonable men  and women Soviet Russia / China is their only Fatherland. They would be most willing to extend the same first-class fatherhood status to Pakistan and Bangladesh, apart from Saudi Arabia. That is why they were virulent in their baseless criticism that Professor Makhan Lal was absolutely wrong when he stated very correctly in his textbook that the concept of Zero was born in India in the Vedic period.
If only Professor Makhan Lal had taken due political care to mention that the concept of Zero was born in Arabia and from there it spread to the West along with the march of Islamic warriors there, then these ‘Eminent Historians’ would have hailed Professor Makhan Lal as a scientific and painstaking historian of great “secular” standing and wisdom!!

Professor Makkhan Lal             Professor Rajendra Dixit
Professor Makhan Lal had published the photograph of a terracotta female figurine with vermillion in her hair parting in one of the NCERT textbooks. It is hilariously funny to note that the publication of this picture took the breath out of the Marxist historians and the ‘Modern’ Sonia Congress “Secularists” and socialites.

Let us hear the exact words of Professor Makhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit in this context: “The use of vermillion in the hair-parting by married women is a practice only in the Hindu society and no other society in the world. When it got published for the first time in history textbooks in India, the Marxists saw the Earth slipping away from their feet. They cried hoarse.” Unfortunately for the wretched ‘Eminent Historians’, the situation was really hopeless. Unfortunately for them, the terracotta figurines were neither found in India nor found by any Indian. Hence the ‘Eminent Historians’ had to forego the delightful opportunity of alleging that these figurines were “planted” by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad archaeologists, nor could they brand these archaeologists as “brazen sympathizers of Hindutva. The brutal fact of the matter is that these figurines were recovered from the archaeological sites of Mehar Garh and Nausharo in Pakistan in the time-context of 2800 BC—- and that too by a team consisting of French and Pakistani archaeologists. These terracotta figurines were published widely in archaeological books on the Harappan civilization. Moreover they were also included in the popular series of TIME-LIFE BOOKS. Only the shameless ideological political scoundrels — I am no doubt referring to the ‘Eminent Historians’ of Maulana Jawaharlal School— who have the brash brazeness to declare that no such thing exists!!! They are able to do it with ant-Hindu gusto and aplomb only because they have the full political backing of the evangelical and anti-Hindu Sonia Government of India and all its known toadies — both open and subterranean!

Professor Makhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit
are right when they state: Academic dishonesty and brazenness in the context of the false statements have reached the meanest level. In order to provide legitimacy to the campaign, even some senior historians who had recently fallen out with the Leftist camp joined the issue, making observations on our book in question.

We can see from Chapter V of the book under review that on 18-10-2002, The Hindustan Times had published an article by Ms Lahiri under the title ‘The Twisted Tale: Indian Children Have Done Nothing To Deserve Such A Raw Deal’. I fully endorse the view of Professor Makhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit THAT THERE WAS VIRTUALLY NOTHING IN THIS ARTICLE IN TERMS OF ACADEMIC CONTENT. Yet I cannot help observing that it had great propaganda value and that is the only thing the Eminent Historians, the Communists of all hues and Sonia Congressmen-nay conmen- of all denominations wanted!

Ms Lahiri
betrayed her Himalayan ignorance of Indian History when she wrote: “In any case there is nothing called a ‘Vedic Culture’ or a ‘Vedic Civilization’ in Indian history”. After offering such superficial and stupid comments, Ms Lahiri concluded like a pedestrian hypocritical Indian politician: The children of India have done nothing to deserve such a deal … the NCERT should only frame a syllabus and throw open the issue of textbooks to the publishing world at large. This will ensure that the best books will have the widest circulation. This will also save impressionable students from twisted tales written by people of uncertain calibre and dubious intent.

Professor Makhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit
have invited national attention to the fact that theEminent Historians’, the Marxists and the Sonia Congressmen after making so much of raucous hue and cry over the media ever in their bonded labour, then chose the platform of the Indian History Congress (IHC) for continuing their baseless attacks against the new NCERT textbooks brought out in September / October 2002 under the NCFSE 2000 framework which was approved by the Supreme Court in toto in September 2002. At the annual session of the IHC in December 2002, they passed a Resolution to get the new NCERT textbooks reviewed by theirEminent Historians’. Consequently, India and the World (Ancient Period) – the Class VI Social Science textbook – and Medieval India (the history textbook for Class XI) were reviewed by Professor Ifran Habib, retired Professor from Aligarh Muslim University. Likewise Ancient India (the history textbook for Class XI) was reviewed by Prof Suvira Jaiswal and the Social Science textbook for Class IX was reviewed by Prof Aditya Mukherjee. Prof Suvira Jaiswal and Prof Aditya Mukherjee were from the Marxist Maulana Jawaharlal Nehru University!

The observations and comments of these three historians were published as a book by the Indian History Congress (IHC) under the title ‘History in the new NCERT Textbooks – A Report And An Index of Errors’. I fully endorse the view of Professor Makhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit that this book ofIndex of Errors’, brought out by IHC is nothing but a bundle of lies, misrepresentation of facts and statements in the textbooks and an exhibition of their own motivated or genuine ignorance even about some of the basic facts and events in Indian history. What is shocking to note is that this infantile book was issued only after the President and the Executive Committee of the IHC hadread and approvedthe draft submitted by the treacherous anti-Hindu triumvirate of Marxist toadies like Ifran Habib, Jaiswal and Mukherjee.

The replies to all the points / criticisms made by these so-called ‘Eminent Historians’ were systemically and accurately given by Professor Makkhan Lal in his rejoinder book titled ‘The NCERT Social Science Books: False Propaganda, Political Agenda and the ‘Eminent Historians’’. What is most amusing to note is that replies for most of the points – the so-called Errors - raised by this treacherous triumvirate were given by Prof Makkhan Lal by just quoting from the earlier textbooks of Prof R. S. Sharma and Prof Romila Thapar on Ancient India published by NCERT. Prof Romila Thapar’s book had been prescribed for Class VI for almost 40 years and that of Prof R.S Sharma for about 25 years.

What does it all mean? When more than 80 % clarifications to the allegations made in the Index of Errors came from the writings of Professors R.S Sharma and Romila Thapar, does it not imply that their books were also equally bad, chauvinistic, communal and finished products of voluntary or involuntary ignorance, apart from unquenchable anti-Hindu fervour? If Professor Makhan Lal’s NCERT textbook had to be subjected to the surgical treatment of Index of Errors of ‘Eminent Historians’ in the larger public interest, then why were not the NCERT textbooks of Professors R.S Sharma and Romila Thapar subjected to the same treatment by the ‘Eminent Historians’ of IHC? The only answer to this most legitimate question can be given only in the words of George Orwell, the great English novelist, who was an Enemy Number One of Stalinistic dictatorial totalitarianism. George Orwell said: “While all of us are equal, some are more equal than others!” For these ‘Eminent Historians’, Professors R.S Sharma and Romila Thapar --- their Marxist comrades-in-arms in the same profession --- are more equal than Professor Makhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit!
The Index of Errors prepared by Prof Ifran Habib, Prof Suvira Jaiswal and Prof Aditya Mukherjee in December 2002 had only one objective in view and that was POLITICAL. They wanted to rundown the new NCERT textbook prepared strictly in accordance with the National Curriculum For Elementary and Secondary Education: A Framework 2000’ (NCFSE 2000) which had been upheld completely by the Supreme Court of India in September 2002. And therefore they colluded together and acted in a shameless manner as hired hangmen of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) which is a known den of anti-Hindu, anti-national and traitorous Marxists for the last 30 years.

It is not therefore surprising to note that this triumvirate came out with this slanderous statement in their Index of Errors: ‘The departures from facts are so considerable that one sometimes begins to feel whether a pupil reading these books will really learn much history at all … often the errors are apparently a mere product of ignorance, but as often they stem from an anxiety to present history with a VERY STRONG CHAUVINISTIC AND COMMUNAL BIAS. … With such parochialism and prejudices as the driving force behind these textbooks, it is clear that these cannot be converted into acceptable textbooks by a mere removal of the linguistic and factual errors pointed out in our Index of Errors.

Professor Makkhan Lal has given a very detailed rejoinder to the baseless allegations (founded upon the superstructure of their anti-Hindu Marxist ideological blinkers and their Himalayan ignorance of internationally accepted basic facts of ancient Indian history!!) raised by Prof Ifran Habib, Prof Suvira Jaiswal and Prof Aditya Mukherjee in their Index of Errors, point by point, quotation after quotation and page after page. I have very carefully gone through the rejoinder vis-à-vis the points raised in the Index of Errors and I can say that the spirited replies given by Professor Makkhan Lal can stand the strictest judicial scrutiny in any court of law.
For want of space it will not be possible for me to present all the points made by Professor Makkhan Lal in his rejoinder. I shall however deal with two or three points raised by that wholly-committed known anti-Hindu Marxist historian Prof Ifran Habib. He is in the line of Genghis Khan, Timur and Aurangazeb. That is why he is very dear to all the Communist Parties and more so to the Sonia Congress Party.
Example I Quotation from Professor Makkhan Lal’s book (Page 59): ‘The Egyptian civilization is one of the oldest ones. It developed around 7500 years ago and lasted about 5000 years.
Prof Ifran Habib’s comment: ‘The Egyptian civilization developed no earlier than 3200 BC. Makkhan Lal’s date is wrong ….
Professor Makkhan Lal’s Reply: ‘Prof Habib’s understanding of the development and evolution of civilizations is so poor that one finds it difficult to have a dialogue with him. In reply to his contention that ‘Egyptian civilization developed no earlier than 3200 BC’, I quote here from ‘EGYPT : LAND OF THE PHARAOHS’ : “The roots of Egyptian civilization trail back to around 9000 BC … By 5000 BC (7000 years back) agriculture had developed and the people had settled into villages. Two distinct political regions gradually emerged: Lower Egypt, in the Delta and the Upper Egypt, along the river’s green corridor. Around 3000 BC or perhaps even earlier, Upper Egypt conquered its northern neighbour, unifying the nation and giving rise to the First Dynasty.’
What gives this special privilege and unique academic right to Prof Ifran Habib to talk arrant nonsense with an air of scholarly authority? Perhaps, this is an inalienable part of his special ‘Minority Rights’ (More Particularly Islamic Intellectual Terrorist Rights!) wholly and specially recognised by the Congress Government of India!!!
Example II Quotation from Professor Makkhan Lal’s book: ‘The Harappan people also worshipped Siva in the form of linga which is done also today’.
Prof Ifran Habib’s comment:There is no proof that the stone cones found are not pestles but phallus stones: and no proof that they were connected with Siva worship’. No non-Muslim scholar will be given any freedom by Islamic marauders like Prof. Ifran Habib to comment on Allah! But he reserves all his right to talk with authority on a Hindu God like Lord Shiva!
Professor Makkhan Lal’s Reply:The photograph published in both Class VI and Class XI textbooks is not something that looks like cones or pestles. It is clearly a SIVALINGA and YONI of terracotta in a single piece found from Kalibangan. Such realistic objects can be called cones or pestles only by someone like Prof Habib.’
I am presenting below three photographs of such objects published in the NCERT textbooks so that the readers can judge for themselves what these are.

Example III:  Quotation from Professor Makkhan Lal’s book (Page 89): ‘There were rules which governed the debate and behaviour of members in Sabha and Samithi like in our Parliament.

Prof Ifran Habib
’s comment:We’ll be next told that a Speaker was also provided for! We just do not know what rules, if any, were made (by whom?) for proceedings of the Sabha and Samithi. Dice was also played there which is not done as yet in ‘our Parliament’.

Professor Makkhan Lal
’s Reply:The contempt in which ancient India’s history is held by Professor Habib is unbelievable. He is unable to conceal it even under the garb of academics. … For Habib’s information I may tell him that the Rules and Regulations are very clearly mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts. VAJSANEYI SAMHITA mentions that ‘erring members were rebuked. Prof Habib needs to know that there existed scholars like A.S Altekar, Beni Prasad, K.P Jaiswal and many others who have written extensively on this subject.’ Prof Ifran Habib would be proud to declare from the house-top that he is fully conversant with the names of all the national and trans national concubines of Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan and other licentious and profligate Mughal Emperors!

I would like to humbly invite the kind attention of Prof Habib to a book authored by R.C Tripathy, former Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, titled ‘Emergence of Second Chamber in India’ published for and on behalf of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in 2002:

There are direct or indirect references to the various procedures followed by the deliberative bodies in ancient India, some of which were quite akin to the procedures observed by modern legislatures.

Prof Ifran Habib displays the typical Islamic contempt for pre-Islamic cultures. And of course he would dismiss scholars like A.S Altekar, Beni Prasad, K.P Jaiswal and R.C Tripathy as contemptible ignorant Kaffirs to be converted to Islam or enslaved in strict accordance with the injunctions of the Koran! No doubt, if India becomes an Islamic State, Prof Ifran Habib would go out of his way to use his Islamic political clout to see that a worse fate awaits Kaffirs like Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit who can dare to praise their ancient Hindu culture!

The Index of Errors prepared by the ‘Eminent Historians’ was published in September 2003. Within a month, the authors of the NCERT textbooks came out with a point-wise rebuttal to their objections in an NCERT publication titledHistory in New NCERT Textbooks: Fallacies In The IHC Report’. The publication of the point-wise reply not only silenced them but also stunned them. The devastating impact of the authors reply to the Index of Errors Report given by IHC can be assessed from the fact that in December 2003, during the annual session of the IHC held at Mysore, the ‘Eminent Historianscould not gather courage to bring any resolution — like the earlier one in the Amritsar Session of the IHCfor the total review of the rest of the textbooks published by the NCERT, for Classes VII, VIII, X and XII. During the Mysore Session of the IHC, more than 600 copies of theHistory in New NCERT Textbooks: Fallacies In the IHC Reportwere sold, besides all the textbooks from Class VI to Class XII, making a record sale.

The threeEminent Historians’ — Prof Ifran Habib, Prof Suvira Jaiswal and Prof Aditya Mukherjee — have maintained an air of calculated silence during the last seven years!!! I have it on authority that they have not answered the rapier-like replies given by Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit to the pseudo-secular anti-Hindu and anti-National arguments raised by this treacherous triumvirate against the new NCERT textbooks.

Nor have they academically responded to any of the issues raised by Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit in this book under review. They seem to be united in their commitment to the pragmatic wisdom contained in the following comic verse:

He who in battle runs away,
May live to fight another day.
He who is in battle slain,
Can never rise to fight again!!!

Seeing this spiteful manner in which these three Islam-embracing Hindu-hating Marxist historians have conspired to demean and denigrate the NCERT textbooks brought out during the NDA regime in 2002-2003, I cannot help paying a special political tribute to them in the words of Shakespeare, the Bard of Avon: ‘Horrible villains; soul-less villains; senseless villains; dissembling villains; hungry villains; remorseless villains; treacherous villains; abhorred villains; unnatural villains; eternal villains; detestable villains; barbarous villains; beastly villains; branded villains; villains fit to lie unburied!!!’ Such villains were very dear to the former Union Human Resource Destruction (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh. They are of course very dear to the anti-Hindu heart of heartless Firangi Memsahib Sonia Gandhi and her minions, including her Prime Minion Dr. Manmohan Singh!

These Shakespearean villains were given a new lease of life by a greater political pan-Islamic and anti-Hindu Congress villain called Arjun Singh who became the Human Resource Development Minister in May 2004.

I have already mentioned that a MARXIST PARTY POLITICAL DOCUMENT was prepared by the ‘Eminent Historians’ on behalf of the Indian History Congress (IHC) which was published in September 2003. Within a month, the authors of the NCERT textbooks came out with a point-wise rebuttal to their objections in an NCERT publication titled ‘History in New NCERT Textbooks: Fallacies in the IHC Report’.

Whatever had been projected as ‘errors’ and ‘communal statements’ by the openly Islamic and patently anti-Hindu ‘Eminent Historians’ turned out to be irrefutable evidence of their ignorance and anti-Hindu prejudice, as there had not been any departure from the facts in the new history textbooks of the NCERT. The publication of the point-wise reply by Professor Makkhan Lal and others not only pre-eminently silenced them but also paralyzed them, in the sense that they even started avoiding news reporters. They also flatly refused to join in any open debate with the authors of the textbooks. In short the so-called ‘Eminent Historians’ in the respectable garb of academics were put out of all Marxist political action IN December 2003. This position continued only till May 2004.

Even before Parliamentary elections were held in April-May 2004, the Marxist Party and the Congress Party which were together in the UPA coalition at that time, had categorically included the Communist demand for the withdrawal of the new NCERT textbooks brought out during the NDA regime and had taken care to include this in the ‘Common Minimum Programme’ of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. One of the items in the ‘Common Minimum Programme’ wasSteps will be taken to remove the communalized school syllabi that has taken place for the past five years. A committee will be setup for this purpose’.

When the UPA Government was formed in New Delhi in May 2004, the first knock-down priority was not the infiltration of Pakistan government guided terrorists into India or the pressing and vexatious problems of the Indian economy but the problem of ‘desaffronisation’ or ‘decommunalisation’ of NCERT school textbooks!! How the Congress / CPI(M) dastardly game of ‘desaffronisation’ was played by Arjun Singh within 10 minutes of his assumption of charge as Union HRD Minister has been graphically brought out by Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit in Chapter VI titled ‘The NCERT History Textbooks Review Committee, The Dotted Lines and the Colour Blindness’. We can see from this chapter that unabashed shamelessness on stilts is the essential minimum condition — though by no means sufficient condition — for becoming a Union Cabinet Minister in Sonia Congress Government!!
Arjun Singh was appointed as the Union Minister for Human Resource Development in May 2004. The Communists who were supporting the UPA coalition were in such a hurry to replace the new NCERT textbooks brought out by the earlier NDA regime that they put Arjun Singh under their minute-to-minute political pressure of the meanest kind every moment of the day. Their only aim was to restore the earlier and outdated NCERT textbooks of Prof. Romila Thapar and Prof R.S Sharma. Consequently Arjun Singh figured in the news every day concerning NCERT and the replacement of history textbooks. Great ‘global leaders’ like Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury wanted the new Textbooks of NCERT to be removed immediately and the old books brought back. Not only this, they also wanted Prof J.S Rajput, former Director of NCERT and a great educationist of international standing, to be virtually hanged.

All the treacherous Marxist marauders in general and the no less rapacious ‘Eminent Historians’ in particular again resumed their malicious political campaign in May 2004. In order to appease the CPI(M), a 3-Member Committee was appointed to go through the new NCERT textbooks and suggest the necessary remedial course of action. The Committee comprised of 2 ex-Presidents and the then President of the Indian History Congress — all known and die-hard communists. The 3 members of the Committee included one each for ancient, medieval and modern history. The 3 members were Prof Barun De, Prof  J.S Grewal and Prof S. Settar. All of them were communists and fully backed by the CPI(M). These 3 Professors gave their report in a tearing hurry in a matter of 72 hours in the manner and measure dictated by the CPI(M). Here I would like to quote the hilarious words of Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit: “The Common Minimum Programme, the shrill voices in the newspapers on a daily basis and the wordings of the notifications appointing the 3 Professors as Members of the Committee was enough. Whatever little fig could have been retained was thrown away with the choice of the 3 members.

The notification appointing the 3 as Members of the NCERT Textbook Review Committee was issued on 12-6-2004
. The notification appointing this Committee said:

The Committee of 3 met for the first time on the afternoon of 22-6-2004, and in the forenoon of 24-6-2004, and gave its first set of recommendations which perhaps emanated from the CPI(M)  Party office in New Delhi:

THEY HAD NO BUSINESS TO OFFICIALLY ATTACK THE NATIONAL
FRAMEWORK FOR CURRICULUM IN SCHOOLS, 2000, WHICH HAD BEEN FULLY APPROVED AND UPHELD BY THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA IN SEPTEMBER 2002 AND NOT IN SEPTEMBER 1902!!

The 3 lackey Textbook Review Committee further observed:

SO THEY WENT THROUGH THE 9 NCERT TEXTBOOKS CONTAINING MORE THAN 1,500 PAGES IN JUST ONE DAY AT THE BIDDING OF CPI(M) AND ARJUN SINGH. THE 3 GAVE THEIR FINAL REPORT ON 24-6-2004. AN AMAZING FEAT ACHIEVED BY A GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE WITHIN 72 HOURS!

On July 5, 2004, the 3 lackey Textbook Review Committee came out with their List of Errors / Mistakes / Comments very much like the earlier 3 Member Committee of the Indian Historical Congress (IHC) in 2002 which had come out with an ‘Index of Errors’. The 3 lackeys were not interested in making any constructive suggestions. They were more interested in denigrating the new textbooks and the NCERT as part of their Communist / Sonia Congress political agenda of the UPA Coalition. Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit have torn the Report of the 3 lackey Textbook Review Committee into shreds and pieces. I fully endorse the findings and comments of these two fearless professors.

It is a matter of national shame that the UPA Government with an academician Prime Minister like Dr Manmohan Singh more or less fully accepted the politically motivated and sham recommendations of the above Committee and announced its decision on 30 July, 2004, through newspaper advertisements. This was nothing but party politics at the lowest political brothel level. Some of the relevant points in the ‘political’ advertisement were as follows:

1. The present textbooks are biased, badly written and full of inaccuracies.

2. From the academic session 2005-2006, the earlier books of history would be restored with appropriate modifications.

What comes out of this cheap and sordid story is that the process of preparation, finalisation and approval of all NCERT school textbooks is in the hands of crude, vulgar, petty, selfish, corrupt and self-seeking party politicians who treat all Professors as their tenants-at-will!!! Firangi memsahib Sonia Gandhi is the Commander-in-Chief of this anti-Hindu----nay anti-National---- Army. I would even go to the extent of saying that all our unscrupulous politicians are interested in using all the academicians and Professors from our listless universities as disposable condoms to be selectively used and discarded at will! The poignant tragedy of our academicians is that our politicians take special pleasure in carefully avoiding the use of these condoms when they indulge in the act of calculated anti-national political orgasm with boundless enthusiasm! In this treacherous world of wicked anti-Hindu politics based on minority appeasement, even the disposable condoms referred to above are deliberately denied self-actualization in the name of promotion of false secularism!

ENGLISH EDUCATION TO DESTROY TIMELESS BHARAT’S NATIONAL HINDU IDENTITY-VIII

V.SUNDARAM I.A.S.
I have already observed that Post-Independence decades in India have only seen further progressive consolidation of the Macaulay system of education in India, totally divorced from the cultural and spiritual roots of India. I fully endorse the view of Professor Makkhan Lal when he says that in post-independent India, political ideologies, insensate bureaucrats and vested interests are doing everything possible within their might to perpetuate a status quo, continue with the same self-hate and nation-hate system of colonial education that defiles almost every bit of Indianness and distorts all its traditions and traditional glories and gains. Social scientists and historians professing Marxist ideology have come to dominate the Indian academia and they have been brazenly—no less adamantly—advocating the continuation of the colonial system of education. The shameful practice of denigration and distortions of the Hindu past of India has been carried forward to absurd limits after the Islam-embracing, Christianity-coveting and Hindu-baiting UPA Government of Sonia Gandhi came to power in May 2004. How Sonia Gandhi’s political stooge and national betrayer Arjun Singh gave a death blow in 2004 to the new and carefully prepared balanced NCERT text books brought out during the preceding NDA regime of Atal Bihari Vajpayee strictly with reference to the NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK FOR SCHOOL EDUCATION-2000 (NCFSE-2000) drawn up by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

Front cover of the book

How shamelessly low and vulgar party politics can play its part in producing substandard textbooks completely divorced from the life-giving traditional spirit of national life has been brilliantly brought out by Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit in Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of their book. The NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK FOR SCHOOL EDUCATION-2000 (NCFSE-2000) drawn up by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) during the NDA regime in 2000 was upheld by the Supreme Court on their judgment in September 12, 2002. Soon after this date the first two Social Science textbooks containing the history component, for Classes VI and IX and prepared strictly in accordance with the NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK FOR SCHOOL EDUCATION-2000 (NCFSE-2000) were published. The publication of these NCERT textbooks on Social Science was, like in the case of the ‘Curriculum Framework’ and the ‘Syllabi’ made into a political circus event rather than an academic one

The books were released on October 3, 2002. The very next day at 5 PM a Press Conference was addressed by some ‘Eminent Historians’ and professional pallbearers of anti- Hindu ‘Secularism’, not from an academic forum but from a political platform. The known anti-Hindu Sonia Congressmen, the known Hindu-hating anti-National traitorous Communist historians and such vicious men wholly involved in promoting the ‘National Thuggee’ of soul-destroying ‘Secularism’ participated in this sordid drama. The most friendly and obliging reporters (fortified with a stiff dose of freely supplied whisky), newspaper owners and editors came out the next day, (i.e 5-10-2002), with headlines that suggested that the academic world, especially the discipline of History, had been made to stand on its head. Some of the screaming headlines were, ‘

· ‘Bloomers galore in NCERT texts’ (Hindustan Times)
· ‘Historians point to errors in new NCERT books’ (Times of India)
· ‘Errors galore in NCERT texts’ (The Hindu)
· ‘Errors cloud on NCERT texts’ (The Telegraph)
· ‘Rewrite, Delete, Error?’ (Indian Express)

It is remarkable that this entire campaign was run by just a handful of historians and activists associated with the CPI (M). The nondescript evangelical Sonia Congress Government under a surrogate Prime Minister and Rasputin-like Human Resource Destruction (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh lent its full official support and political patronage to the gangsters of CPI(M). The newspapers were only too eager to lap up this absurdity and publish it without verifying the facts or without realizing what impact such insidious and false reporting would have on our National society and culture.

Our mean and irresponsible men in the mass-media blatantly violated all the known canons of ethical journalism when they launched a baselessly blistering attack on the two new textbooks on Social Science brought out by NCERT in 2002.

What is ethical journalism all about? On a working, finite level it is the effort to achieve bold and illuminating candour in print and to strip away cant. It is the effort to do this not only in high matters of State, diplomacy and politics but also in every smaller aspect of life that touches that most imponderable thing called Public Interest — in short anything that engages proper public curiosity. In short it refers to the pursuit of truth and the effort to state the truth without fear or favour. The pursuit of truth and the fearless articulation of it, is the most delicate, hazardous, exacting and inexact of all tasks. Playwright-journalist-diplomat Clare Boothe Luce has said that responsible journalism involves the pursuit of truth, dissemination of exact information and energetic propagation of enlightenment. The whole time job of our machinating, menacing men in the media seems to lie in the pursuit of contrived falsehood, dissemination of fraudulent information and energetic propagation of politically guided public ignorance!

With the full official support of the Government of India — the authors of the two NCERT textbooks for Classes VI and IX were first ‘honoured’ with choicest abuses and invectives like ‘suffering from slavish mentality’, ‘academically bankrupt’, ‘communal’, ‘biased’’ and ‘ignorant of facts and research methodology’. Next the books were condemned as an example of ‘academic bankruptcy’, ‘unbelievably ridiculous nature of writing’, ‘plagiarized’, ‘shoddy‘ etc.

Since Professor Makkhan Lal had jointly authored the section on People and Society in the Ancient Period in the Class VI book on Social Science, he considers it his duty to the nation to respond to the above wild, wholly political and hopelessly un-academic allegations stemming from the dangerous combination of unprovoked hatred, flagrant political arrogance and supreme proletarian right to colossal Marxist ignorance. It is interesting to note that the alleged ‘Eminent Historians’ who give press statements and interviews at the drop of a Soviet/Chinese hat backed out in a cowardly manner from a live debate on the NCERT textbooks organized by several TV channels. The same nervous attitude was shown by all the brazen Sonia Congress and Communist castigators of the new textbooks.

Professor Makkhan Lal
has dealt with in detail the following mistakes in the Class VI textbook which were specially highlighted by political parties like CPI (M) and the Sonia Congress and  bandied about freely in the obliging anti-Hindu and anti-national media.

a) ‘Sedentary living began in the Neolithic period. (“Housing Societies” began in Neolithic period, as sarcastically reported by one newspaper.)
b) Zero was known in the Vedic period’.
c) The cow was considered sacred and not to be hurt. (Aghnya), much less killed and eaten in the Vedic period.
d) Female terracotta figurines using vermillion have been found from several sites belonging to the Harappan civilization.
e) Swastikas, Shivalingas , Kamandalas, havana kundas, etc have been found from Harappan sites.
f) Brihadratha, the last Mauryan King, was the only king in Ancient India who was slain in full view of the army.
g) The Egyptian calendar was lunar.

THE ABOVE FACTS, WHICH WERE DELIBERATELY EXCLUDED FROM THE EARLIER NCERT TEXTBOOKS, AND NOW INCLUDED, CAME AS A REAL SHOCK TO THE BLISSFULLY IGNORANT EDUCATED WORLD. These facts, which were well known in the world of Higher Research for several decades, came as a surprise even to a large number of academics.  Professor Makkhan Lal and Professor Rajendra Dixit
are absolutely right when they say that the main reason for this deliberate exclusion was the politically-motivated conscious effort of the earlier textbook writers not to mention such facts as would be inconvenient to their professed ideology of Marxism and its flagrant denial of Hindu heritage constituting the bedrock of our Nation.

In an instant reaction to the facts — like the worship of shivalingas, the use of vermillion by married women in their hair-parting, the existence of Havana-kundas and the findings of horse bones from several Har appan sites — these self-proclaimed experts and ‘Eminent Historians’ showed their Marxist disbelief and the relevant photographs published in the book were propagated as ‘Communal Products’ of computer simulation (in the jihadi ‘al-Taqquiya’ style).

The most disgraceful part of this was that some of the ‘Eminent Historians’ kept themselves incognito behind this game so that they were not branded as totally ignorant and out-of-tune with the latest research. For this purpose they politically recruited primary and secondary school teachers and some degree college teachers who probably have never seen a journal or a research publication in their life, much less being aware of the latest researches in the field.  The media did not even bother to check the facts from the authors. For our mean men in the media, facts can be FREE or FLUID, so long as their ideological comments are treated as solid, sacred and sacrosanct by their clueless readers whom they treat with the utmost contempt.

Even after the clear and categorical verdict given by the Supreme Court of India in their judgement on September 12, 2002, completely upholding the NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK FOR SCHOOL EDUCATION 2000 (NCFSE 2000), the so called ‘Eminent Historians’ (Marxist intellectual prostitutes hired by Maulana Jawaharlal University and the Sonia Congress mercenaries --- all fellow travellers engaged in the National Thuggee of anti-Hindu Secularism) continued to launch their vitriolic tirade against the new textbooks of NCERT prepared with meticulous care by professional educators of repute, strictly in accordance with NCFSE 2000. The political platform of CPI(M) was shamelessly used by these ‘Eminent Historians’ till the NDA Government was in power. After May 2004 when the Sonia Congress UPA Government came to power, these intellectual gangsters had no difficulty at all in using the NCERT as their private fiefdom because the UPA Government --- Sonia Congress and CPI(M) consolidated combine---acted together under the leadership of HRD (Human Resource Destruction!!!) Minister Arjun Singh, to give a decent burial to the NCFSE 2000.

I have already referred to the fact that 2 new textbooks prepared with reference to NCFSE 2000 were released on October 2002 in New Delhi. The very next day on October 4, 2002, a press conference was hurriedly called up by the ‘Eminent Historians’ at New Delhi to run down the new Social Science textbooks of Class VI and IX brought out by NCERT. These ‘Eminent Historians’, came out with certain stupid and baseless objections against these 2 textbooks deriving their inspiration from the Marxist dictum, ‘nothing succeeds like the excess of unabashed falsehood’. One of the authors of the concerned textbook was Professor Makkhan Lal, a truly spirited and bold scholar. When he tried to counter the arguments of ‘Eminent Historians’ he was deliberately ignored by the media. Undeterred by the cold anti-Hindu indifference of the media, Professor Makkhan Lal decided to present his point of view in the form of a small book titled The NCERT Social Science Books: False Propaganda, Political Agenda and the Eminent Historians’. This book contained systematic refutation of each and every objection raised by theEminent Historiansand their coterie.

I am briefly presenting below the so-called mistakes pointed out by the ‘Eminent Historians’ which engaged the media for almost three months from October 2002.

 A. Housing Societies in the Neolithic Period:
Professor Makkhan Lal had not used the term ‘Housing Societies’ at all in his textbook. He had only referred to the fact of existence of house building activities during the Neolithic Period. The whole world knows that the Neolithic Phase of human march to civilization was marked by the beginning of agriculture, domestication of animals and sedentary life (which automatically implies building of houses). Professor Makkhan Lal is absolutely right when he asks the question:Could there be a settled life without houses to live in?” The ‘Eminent Historiansbehaved like third-grade street-level politicians when they alleged that Professor Makkhan Lal had stated thatHousing Societiesexisted in the Neolithic period. All that Professor Makkhan Lal had said was that the Neolithic people had come to lead a settled life.

 B. Zero in the Vedic Period:

The Marxist historians, completely following the footsteps of the British Colonial Historians, have always denied the contribution of India to the realm of science, mathematics, astronomy and philosophy. For them and the pseudo-secular historians, the Vedic society remains a pastoral and illiterate society. They deny the fact that the concept of ZERO was known in the Vedic times. This is despite the fact that Rig Veda refers to the price of a statue of Lord Indra as 10 cows or 100 nishka. Rig Veda also mentions that the hall of Indra contained 1000 pillars. Professor Makkhan Lal challenges theEminent Historiansby raising this pertinent question:How can 10 or 100 or 1000 be imagined with out a Zero, because 10 itself was the basic unit?
Professor Makkhan Lal gives an even more smashing rejoinder to the ‘Eminent Historians’ by quoting from VAJASANEYI (XVII.2): “Oh Agni! May these bricks be mine own milch kine: one, and ten hundreds, a thousand, and ten thousands myriad, and a hundred thousand, and a million, and a hundred millions, and an ocean middle and end, and a hundred thousand millions, and a billion. He also says that from Sulvasutras we come to know about the use of the decimal system. While talking of Kalinga war in Rock Edict XIII, it is mentioned:” One hundred and fifty thousand were carried off as prisoners. One Hundred Thousand who were dead. … Therefore, even one hundredth or one thousandth of those who were slain, died, or were made prisoners in the State of Kalinga, is now considered serious by the ‘Beloved of the Gods’”. Professor Makkhan Lal says that Ashoka is talking in terms of fractions. How can Eminent Historians say that the concept of Zero did not exist in Ancient India?

 C. The ‘Cow Eating’ in the Vedic Period:
Professor Makkhan Lal says that from the Rig Veda and the Atharvaveda we know that some of the domestic animals like the Cow were treated asaghnya(not to be killed or injured). The Vedic texts prescribe death or banishment from the kingdom to those who kill or injure the cow. The Rule of the Vedas  that Cow isaghnya’, has been constantly and consistently repeated in the Sanskrit literature.

The ‘Eminent Historians’ would love to refer to the word ‘Goghna’, the interpretation of which has added to confusion. Professor Makkhan Lal is right when he says that it was Pundit Taranath and his VACHASPATYAM published in 1863 AD which created the confusion. This Sanskrit Dictionary of Pundit Taranath was commissioned by the East India Company in order to give legitimacy to the writings of people like Max Mueller. He was a poor Pundit and was lured by the offer of payment of a princely sum of Rs 10,000 as remuneration in 1863 AD for producing this politically/culturally doctored dictionary from the English Colonial Christian point of view. Thus Pandit Taranath was the 19th century intellectual precursor of Eminent Historians of today like Professor Romilla Thapar, Professor Ifran Habib, Professor Sharma and other Marxist Historians of Maulana Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Taranath deliberately misinterpreted certain crucial words in the Rig Veda just in order to please his colonical masters. He artfully corrupted the meaning of certain Vedic words. ‘Goghna’ is one of them. Taranath interpreted it as ‘Killer of cows’, in direct contradiction of the real meaning given by PANINI, according to whom the word meant, “the donee guest who receives a cow”. By changing this meaning to suit his masters in the East India Company, Taranath imposed on the Hindus the pre-contrived position that they ate cows, in order to provide legitimacy to his cow-eating Christian masters. The pseudo-secular Anti-Hindu pseudo-scholars of today are still using this Dictionary born out of colonial politics as their Holy Bible for reference and political research today!

We can clearly see why the ‘Eminent Historians’ are so fond of a sham-scholar like Pundit Taranath. By accepting Taranath’s position that the Hindus were cow-eaters, they can give total legitimacy to all the cow-eating Christians and Muslims of India today!!! Here the essential requirements of minority vote-banks politics of both CPI (M) and Sonia Congress can meet each other on a level playing ground, to the complete electoral political satisfaction of both.

In these days of pseudo-secular anti-Hindu India, being actively promoted by the Government of India, scholarship only means being at home with what is written by the Western scholars, who have during the last 250 years, continuously discredited the antiquity of the glory and grandeur of Indian culture and tried their very best to bring down the dates to suit their colonial, Christian and political purposes. For example, if we carefully look into the works of the Englishmen and Europeans published during the 167 years of uninterrupted English rule from Warren Hastings in 1772 to the beginning of World War II, we can clearly see that hundreds of books were published relating to the topics of Indian religion, history and culture. In nearly all of them we can find malicious falsification and manipulation of history according to a definite political plan as desired by the British Colonial Government. William Jones laid the foundation in 1784 AD for the ‘Western’ History of Ancient India. He deliberately created the problem of the two (2) Chandra Guptas and thus reduced the chronology of India by a span of 1200 years to fall in line with the chronology of the Bible. This pattern of distortion was continued and perfected by Lord Macaulay, who financed Max Muller (1823-1900) to translate the Rig Veda in a way that would destroy the beliefs of the newly English-educated Indians in their ancient literature so as to further the cause of Christianity and facilitate the process of Christian conversion of India.

Like the British Government of Colonial India, we find that the anti-Hindu evangelical Firangi Memsahib UPA Government of India today is equally engaged in actively and openly manipulating the pro-Islamic and pro-Christian NCERT Textbooks.
